The Penguins got one healthy forward back on Saturday in Jared McCann, but lost another in Brandon Tanev.
Tanev, after participating in warmups before the Penguins' game against the Devils in New Jersey on Saturday, was a surprise late scratch for the game.
McCann played as second-line center, and Evan Rodrigues shifted over to second-line left wing in Tanev's place.
Mike Sullivan provided an update on Tanev's status after the game.
"Tans is out right now with an upper-body injury," Sullivan said. "He is being evaluated right now. He will continue to be evaluated when we get back to Pittsburgh."
The Penguins will play the Devils at home tomorrow, Sunday at 1 p.m.
