The Steelers are setting up for more free agency moves.
That became evident when they restructured Eric Ebron's contract Wednesday morning, first reported by ESPN. The move frees up $3.9M into the Steelers' salary cap, lightening the tight end's salary cap hit from $8.5M to $4.6M. This comes just a day after the Steelers released Steven Nelson.
Nelson's release brought the Steelers' salary cap space up to a little over $10M, and this move would bring it close to $14M with still the option to restructure more players like Stephon Tuitt, Chris Boswell and work out extensions with players like Joe Haden and David DeCastro for more cap space.
All these moves line up for the Steelers looking to make additions in free agency after only being able to sign B.J. Finney and re-sign RayRay McCloud, Cameron Sutton and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Several free agents are on the market who could interest the Steelers at multiple positions. That includes potential replacements for Nelson like former Pro Bowl cornerbacks Casey Hayward, Richard Sherman and A.J. Bouye, as well as centers like Austin Blythe.
Kevin Colbert isn't done making moves yet.
