There was a scary moment at the end of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins loss to the Hershey Bears on Friday when captain Josh Currie got struck in the head with a puck, but the news out of Saturday's practice was good.

Currie was on the bench with 1:05 remaining in the game when the Bears were on the penalty kill for an unsportsmanlike conduct call. A Bears defenseman attempted to clear the puck out of Hershey's zone and sent it straight into the Penguins bench, hitting Currie in the side of the head. Currie was immediately tended to by a trainer, and ran off under his own power down the tunnel with a towel against the side of his head.

There was no immediate update on Currie on Friday night.

"That puck just sailed over the boards there," coach J.D. Forrest said after the game.

"It was terrifying," Jordy Bellerive said. "You never want to see that happen. It really happened fast, and to get hit in the head it's a really scary situation. We're glad he's OK, and it's really unfortunate to see things like that happen."

Currie was a full participant in Saturday's practice.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton director of media relations Nick Hart said on Saturday that Currie "was left with a cut on his ear, but after evaluation both last night and this morning, he is good to go."

Currie, 28, is in his first year in the Penguins organization. He has four goals and three assists in nine games with Wilkes-Barre, where he centers the top line and is a key player on the top power play unit. He was scoreless in one game with Pittsburgh in a fourth-line role.
