A year ago, Sean Davis signed a one-year contract to join the Washington Football Team, leaving the Steelers, who had selected him in the second round of the 2016 draft.
But after he was released at the end of training camp by Washington, Davis was re-signed by the Steelers to provide veteran depth behind safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds.
A year later, Davis is again leaving the Steelers on a one-year deal, this time to sign with the Colts.
And now former Steelers’ safety Sean Davis is signing a one-year deal with the Colts, per his agent @DrewJRosenhaus. https://t.co/vjHhxlDY4p

Davis, who had visited with the Bills earlier in the week, has appeared in 64 career games, all with the Steelers, making 42 starts. He has five career interceptions and 21 career pass breakups, playing both strong and free safety.
The Steelers, meanwhile, are kicking the tires on a player to perhaps replace Davis on the roster, hosting former Raiders and Browns safety Karl Joseph.
With veteran special teams player Jordan Dangerfield also a free agent, the Steelers' lone depth behind Fitzpatrick and Edmunds is Antoine Brooks, a sixth-round draft pick who played sparingly last season. The team also re-signed Marcus Allen and added former Lions safety Miles Killebrew in free agency, but both are viewed more as linebackers now than they are safeties.
All three are considered more strong safety than free safety types, leaving the Steelers without a true backup to Fitzpatrick.
