Coulibaly transfers from Pitt to Atlantic-10 champion St. Bonaventure taken on the South Side (Pitt)

Abdoul Karim Coulibaly boxes out Jericole Hellems (4) and Manny Bates (15).

After Au'Diese Toney committed to his new school Thursday, Abdoul Karim Coulibaly did the same Friday.

Coulibaly committed to St. Bonaventure, the reigning Atlantic-10 champions who knocked Duquesne out of the conference tournament in early March. He makes the second of Pitt's three starters to find a new program through the Transfer Portal, and the third of Pitt's five players to find a new program through the portal (Terrell Brown also committed to San Diego.)

Coulibaly was the last of Pitt's players to announce he would enter the NCAA Transfer Portal last Thursday.

The Mali-born, 6-foot-8, 216 lbs. sophomore forward averaged 5.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game while starting 20 of 22 contests last season for the Panthers. He served as the team's starting center and the primary big man on the court. He finishes his Pitt career 184 points, 130 rebounds and 23 blocked shots in 48 games, with all 20 starts coming from the 2020-2021 season.

Coulibaly joins the Bonnies under head coach Mark Schmidt, who finished the season 16-5 as Atlantic-10 Tournament and regular season champions before losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as a 9-seed.

His primary competition for playing time will be 6-foot-10, 220 lbs. junior forward Osun Osunniyi, who averaged 10.7 points and 9.4 rebounds. St. Bonaventure has made the NCAA Tournament twice in the last four seasons, and three times in Schmidt's 14 seasons coaching the program.

Jeff Capel and his Panthers have yet to land a single high school recruit or college player via the portal. But last week, Pitt did become Rivals' leading school to land five-star center Efton Reid. Reid would be a huge get for Capel as the 7-foot-1, 235 lbs. center from Bradenton, Fl. is Rivals' third-ranked center and 23rd ranked prospect.
