The injured list giveth, and the injured list taketh away.

In case you missed it after Wednesday's practice, there was positive injury news: Evgeni Malkin resumed skating in Pittsburgh.

There was more good news after Thursday's optional morning skate, with Mike Sullivan confirming that John Marino would be available for Thursday's game against the Rangers. Marino missed Wednesday's practice with what Sullivan called a "maintenance day" after leaving Tuesday's game in the third period following a trip that caused Marino to hit his face on the ice.

The bad news, though, is that Teddy Blueger still has not been cleared to play and will not be available for Thursday's game.

"He continues to progress with the activity on the ice," Sullivan said of Blueger.

Additionally, Anthony Angello absence from Tuesday's game wasn't a result of a coaching decision. He's dealing with an upper-body injury and was left in Pittsburgh, so he won't be available for Thursday's game either. The specific nature of the injury and when he may have sustained it wasn't disclosed.

"It came to our medical staff (Monday) that Anthony was complaining of an upper-body injury," Sullivan said. "So we left him back at home. He's back in Pittsburgh right now tending to that."
