NEWARK, N.J. -- Ron Hextall made it known a while ago that he would like to add some toughness up front, and reportedly tried to get that in a trade for Anaheim winger Nicolas Deslauriers.
Those talks apparently have ended without an agreement, however, and a source familiar with the discussions said "I don't anticipate" that there will be a deal struck before the trade deadline Monday at 3 p.m., although the source did not entirely rule out the possibility.
It was not immediately clear what the Ducks were seeking to acquire in any deal, or how many players and other assets would have been involved on either side.
Deslauriers, 30, is under contract through the 2021-22 season, with a salary-cap hit of $1 million.
He is 6 foot 3, 219 pounds and has four goals, four assists and 38 penalty minutes in 35 games.
Deslauriers ranks second on the Ducks with 102 hits, which ranks 23rd in the league, and can play both wings.
He was a third-round draft choice by Los Angeles in 2009, although he never played a game with the Kings.
Deslauriers put up a career-best 10 goals while playing for Montreal in 2017-18 and had a career-high 15 points with Buffalo in 2014-15.
His personal high for penalty minutes in a season is 92, set last season with the Ducks.
