Good morning!
All three of our big-league beats are being double-teamed for the first time: Dale Lolley and Chris Carter on Steelers, Dave Molinari and Taylor Haase on Penguins, Gerard Gilberto and Alex Stumpf on Pirates. The only one that was that way before was hockey, and it worked so well there that it's now across the board, as of the two months since Gerard joined us.
From the reader standpoint, the pluses are obvious: More quality and quantity to the day-to-day coverage.
But from a wholly internal standpoint, the pluses are that Tom Reed and I both get to basically wing it. Tom does his thing in assembling awesome features, and I do mine by bouncing around from beat to beat based on whatever's hot and/or available. And this scenario alone is something I've wanted forever at this company. Just needed all the right pieces.
It took a while. The right people, the right plan, the right everything. I'd heard for years from those operating other start-ups that it's never, ever, ever right at the outset, and they couldn't have been more correct. I mean, this is our seventh year and ... man, it still feels like we can get so much better.
