Kasperi Kapanen participated in the Penguins' optional morning skate on Thursday, a day after he rejoined his teammates for the first time in a full capacity in a practice in Cranberry on Wednesday.
When Kapanen spoke after that practice, he said that there was no target date set yet for his return, which would be his first game since he was injured on March 24.
"Today was my first skate with the team," he said. "I feel good, feel like myself. Whenever there's a foot injury, you take extra precautions to come back."
That return could come as early as Thursday's game against the Devils at PPG Paints Arena.
"At this point, he'll be a game-time decision," Mike Sullivan said of Kapanen's status for tonight's game.
All of the Penguins' other injured players are "continuing through the process" with no major developments, with one exception.
Brandon Tanev, who Ron Hextall previously said isn't expected to return to the lineup during the regular season, skated on his own on Wednesday for the first time since he suffered an upper-body injury on April 3.
"That's a big step for his progression," Sullivan said.
