Evgeni Malkin didn't play the last 8:48 of the Penguins' 1-0 win over the Sabres in the regular-season finale Saturday at PPG Paints Arena, but the update from Mike Sullivan after the game was a positive one.

Malkin took just one shift after he collided with Dylan Cozens midway through the third period, and sat on the bench for the remainder of the game. He didn't go to the locker room at any point.

This was the collision:

Leaving Malkin on the bench was just precautionary, though, Sullivan said.

"Geno thought he tweaked something on that collision," Sullivan said. "He got checked out afterward and felt fine. We don't anticipate any issues moving forward. We held him out for precautionary reasons."

The Penguins' two goals in this game were to win in regulation to put themselves in the best possible position to lock up the No. 1 seed, and to emerge unscathed injury-wise as they head into the playoffs. They appear to have accomplished both of those goals.
