Colin Moran gets injured during a diving play in the first inning of Saturday's game at Wrigley Field.

CHICAGO -- After drawing up an already depleted lineup, Derek Shelton lost his most productive hitter in the first inning Saturday.

Colin Moran exited in the opening frame against the Cubs at Wrigley Field with left groin discomfort, the team later announced. He will be day-to-day.

Moran caught a Jason Heyward liner, then dove back to the first-base bag head first to try and double up Willson Contreras. He immediately got up and walked off the field mostly under his own strength, but he visibly avoided putting any pressure on his left leg as he hobbled down the dugout steps.

The 28-year-old leads the Pirates in batting (.297), slugging percentage (.468), OPS (.821) and RBIs (19), and is tied with Bryan Reynolds for the team lead with four homers. Moran struck out looking against Trevor Williams with a runner in scoring position to end the opening inning. He was replaced by veteran Todd Frazier in the lineup and on the field.

It's the same spot and the same field at which Ke'Bryan Hayes was checked out during his last game before hitting the injured list on April 3.
