Sidney Crosby is the Penguins' nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, the NHL announced on Tuesday.

The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is annually awarded "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."

The nominees were selected by the teams, and a committee of senior NHL executives led by Gary Bettman and Bill Daly will select the winner using the following criteria:

• Clear and measurable positive impact on the community
• Investment of time and resources
• Commitment to a particular cause or community
• Commitment to the League’s community initiatives
• Creativity of programming
• Use of influence; engagement of others

The winner of the award will receive $25,000 to be donated to the charity of his choice. The other two finalists will each receive $5,000 for a charity of their choice.
