Player: Cal Mitchell
Position:
Outfielder
Bats/throws: Left/Left
Age: 22
Size: 6-0, 216 pounds
MLB organizational rank: No. 18
Affiliate: Altoona

A second-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, Cal Mitchell notched his second home run of the season as part of a two hit game for Altoona Thursday night. The home run tied the game at 2 before the Curve pulled ahead and beat Harrisburg 9-5.

While the home run was a bomb, it was this play in right field that blows the home run out of the water.

Full extension for Mitchell who is slashing .222/.348/.764 for Altoona this season in 13 games. Demonstrating his power, solid glove and speed should go along way in helping Mitchell continue his way up the ranks.

ELSEWHERE

• Since arriving in Indianapolis all catcher Christian Bethancourt has done is hit as he went 2-for-4 for the Indians in Thursday night's win over St. Paul.

Bethancourt was signed as a minor league free agent after starting the season in Philadelphia and is currently hitting .333 for Indianapolis.

The Indians also got two hits from  first baseman Hunter Owen, left fielder Bligh Madris, catcher Jason Delay and three hits from Cole Tucker in the 7-3 victory.

• It was another solid night for Greensboro third baseman Jared Triolo who homered for the Grasshoppers, but it was shortstop Jesus Valdez who stole the show had a hit, RBI and scored two runs in a winning effort.

Valdez came to the Pirates' organization in a trade with the Dodgers for David Freese in 2018 and is seeing extensive playing time with Liover Peguero on the shelf with a contusion.

• Bradenton ended a three-game losing streak Thursday night on the heels of outfielder Will Matthiessen who batted in six runs for the Marauders, becoming the first player in team history to do so. Matthiessen launched a three-run home run as well as two doubles on the night.
