Evgeni Malkin in practice this season.

Mike Sullivan said in his season-ending media availability Friday that he was "probably stating the obvious" by disclosing that Evgeni Malkin was 'not 100 percent' healthy in the playoffs.

"What I'll tell you about Geno is that Geno was dealing with a knee injury," Sullivan said. "He fought really hard to get back in the lineup to try and help us win."

Sullivan added that Malkin was continuing to be evaluated now.

Casey DeSmith, who was unavailable for the playoffs after an injury suffered in practice before Game 1, was dealing with a soft-tissue groin injury.

"Not an easy injury from a goaltending standpoint," Sullivan added. "That's why he was unavailable for the playoffs to the point where we were when we got eliminated."
