Sidney Crosby won't be honored as the NHL's top defensive forward in 2020-21.
Although Crosby was widely praised for his defensive work during the past season, he was not one of the three finalists for the Selke Trophy announced Sunday.
Those finalists are Florida's Aleksander Barkov, Mark Stone of Vegas and Boston's Patrice Bergeron.
Former Penguins center Jordan Staal, now with Carolina, had been considered a dark horse candidate for the Selke but, like Crosby, was not selected as a finalist in voting by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
The Selke winner, along with those of other NHL awards, will be announced during the Stanley Cup final, but neither the date nor the time for doing so has been set.
