Add Casey DeSmith to the list of Penguins players undergoing offseason surgery.

DeSmith, 29, had an operation Thursday in Philadelphia to repair a bilateral core muscle injury, the team announced.

His recovery time is expected to be 6-8 weeks, which means he should be ready for the start of training camp in September.

DeSmith's injury forced him to miss the final two games of the regular season and the Penguins' six-game loss to the New York Islanders in Round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

He was 11-7 in 20 appearances in 2020-21, with a 2.54 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.

DeSmith has one season remaining on his contract, with a salary-cap hit of $1.25 million.
