Taylor's Talking Point: Who claims the Conn Smythe? taken at PPG Paints Arena (NHL)

GETTY

Andrei Vasilevskiy, Nikita Kucherov celebrate after a Stanley Cup Final victory in Tampa, Fla.

With a 3-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final, the Lightning have the opportunity to sweep the Canadiens and take home a second consecutive Stanley Cup Monday night in Montreal.

Before Steven Stamkos gets to lift the Stanley Cup again, though, there will be one more trophy awarded.

The Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the postseason's most valuable player.

The leading candidates on the Lightning at this point are Andrei Vasilevskiy, Nikita Kucherov, and Brayden Point.

Vasilevskiy has started in all 21 playoff games for the Lightning this summer, posting a 15-6 record, a 1.94 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage.

Kucherov is the Lightning's leading scorer with eight goals and 24 assists in 21 games.

Point is the Lightning's leading goal-scorer, with 14 goals (six more than any other Lightning player), in addition to his nine assists in 21 games.

Had this been a tighter series, one probably could have made the case for Carey Price being a candidate, even if the Canadiens still lost. The Conn Smythe has been awarded to a player whose team did not win the Stanley Cup five times before, with four of those five recipients being the losing goaltender -- Roger Crozier (1965, Red Wings), Glenn Hall (1968, Blues), Ron Hextall (1987, Flyers), and Jean-Sebastien Giguere (Mighty Ducks, 2003). But with the Final series playing out the way it has, it seems unlikely that Price would be up for the award now.
