The Pirates wrapped up their first batch of draft pick signings Friday, inking the five players they selected in the sixth through 10th rounds.
That includes, in order of when they were selected: San Diego State shortstop Mike Jarvis and catcher Wyatt Hendrie, University of California-Berkeley righty Sean Sullivan, Louisville outfielder Luke Brown and Eastern Michigan University right-hander Justin Meis.
A source tells DK Pittsburgh Sports that Hendrie signed for $177,500. The 193rd pick carries a slot value value of $244,900.
According to Jim Callis of MLB.com, Meis signed slightly under-slot at $127,500. The 283rd pick where he was selected carries a $149,500 slot bonus. Callis also reports that Brown will receive $72,500, while his pick value is $162,000. Jarvis will receive $7,500, according to MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo, significantly less than the $315,400 signing bonus his pick 163 spot carries.
That saved money will go to the class of high schoolers the Pirates selected shortly before these picks.
The terms of Sullivan's deal are not yet known.
Jarvis, 23, hit .367 with 17 doubles, five home runs and 16 stolen bases in 46 games. He was a second-team All-Mountain West Conference selection this season.
His teammate, Henrie, hit .379 with 12 doubles, nine home runs and a Mountain West Conference-leading 57 RBIs in 45 games played. The 22-year-old backstop threw out 11 of 21 potential base stealers.
Sullivan, 21, went 4-5 with a 3.68 ERA and 75 strikeouts in his 15 starts as a junior this season. He posted a 2.08 ERA with 48 strikeouts over 43 1/3 innings in the Cape Cod League in 2019. He was Baseball America's No. 138 prospect in this draft.
Brown, 22, hit .324 with 13 doubles, 20 RBI and 17 stolen bases. He was selected by the Yankees in the 25th round in the 2019 draft, but did not sign.
Meis, 21, is a graduate of Bethel Park High School. He went 4-6 with a 4.64 ERA over 73 2/3 innings, striking out 81.
