The Penguins added to their front office on Wednesday with the hiring of Nick Pryor as the director of amateur scouting.

In his new role, Pryor, 30, will oversee scouting at the amateur levels in both North America and Europe. He spent the last eight seasons as an amateur scout with the Flyers, focusing on NCAA and USHL players.

As a player, Pryor played both forward and defense and was a seventh-round pick of the Ducks in 2008. He played in the USHL and four years at the University of Maine after being drafted, but never played pro after concussions cut his time as a player short.

Pryor is the son of Penguins director of player personnel Chris Pryor

Assistant general manager Patrik Allvin previously oversaw the team's amateur scouting efforts.

Ron Hextall said on Wednesday that the Penguins were looking to add to their scouting department after global crossover scout Al Santilli was "moving on."

"We needed to find someone and Nick was there," Hextall said. "I'm familiar with Nick. He's got a terrific hockey mind, and he's going to really add a lot to the organization. You can just look at the history of some of the picks that (the Flyers) made with his influence. I've been around him for four or five years working closely with him. And he's going to be a really, really important add to the organization."
