RICHMOND, Va. -- Some of the Pirates better efforts over the last few week, specifically, the dramatic walkoff win over the Mets, and the team’s recent outstanding draft had me recalling the glory days of 2013-15, and the ascension of Andrew Stefan McCutchen to one of baseball’s very best players. Over certain hot streaks in that time period, Cutch’s at-bats were can’t-miss entertainment. At his spot in the lineup approached, I’d drop whatever I was doing and tune in to the AtBat app to listen intently, because it always seemed like something cool and exciting was going to happen.
In that all-too-brief window of time, the Pirates really MATTERED, and it’s refreshing to think that someday in the not-too-distant future, they might matter again!
