Former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis announced on his Twitter on Monday that he had tested positive for COVID-19.
Bettis, who has been vaccinated, noted that his symptoms are mild as a result of the vaccination. He encouraged people to continue to get vaccinated and be safe when in public.
"It is important for me to let you all know that I recently tested positive for COVID-19," Bettis wrote. "I’m currently in isolation at home. Fortunately, I am blessed that my symptoms are very mild because I am vaccinated. I highly encourage everyone to continue to wear masks, practice social distancing, and get vaccinated. We are not in the clear and need to continue to do our part to keep one another safe."
No vaccine is 100 percent effective, and fully-vaccinated people can still contract COVID-19. However, breakthrough infections typically have fewer symptoms and last for a shorter time period.
