The Penguins added to their front office on Tuesday, naming former player agent Alec Schall director of hockey operations.
Schall's role will have him involved in contract negotiations with players, managing the salary cap, and other hockey-related responsibilities. He will report to Ron Hextall.
The title of director of hockey operations for the Penguins was last held by Sam Ventura last season, along with the title of director of analytics. Ventura was hired by the Sabres last month.
Schall spent the last nine years at the sports marketing firm LEGACY Global Sports, working as director of athlete representation, a role that had him scouting and recruiting clients for the agency. Schall founded his own independent hockey representation agency R4PA in 2001, and R4PA was acquired by LEGACY in 2012.
As a player agent, Schall's clients more recently included James and Trevor van Riemsdyk, Alec Martinez, Connor Clifton, Joel Farabee, and Luke Glendening. He also previously represented Max Pacioretty earlier in his career, and current Wilkes-Barre/Scranton assistant coach Kevin Porter.
"Having spent over 25 years in professional sports, Alec brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with contract negotiations," Hextall said in a statement. "His unique perspective and background make him an exciting addition to our hockey operations staff."
