LECOM Park will play host to Pirates' spring training games, Bradenton, Fla.

ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Pirates announced their the 34-game Grapefruit League schedule for the 2022 season Wednesday. The 2022 spring slate gets under way February 26 when the Pirates host the the Tampa Bay Rays. 

The schedule features 17 home games at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Fla. and 17 on the road throughout the Grapefruit League with the first road trip coming February 27 when the Pirates have a split squad day with one team taking on Detroit at LECOM Park while another heads to North Port to play the Braves.

The Pirates will play the New York Yankees twice as part of the Grapefruit league schedule with the first match up coming in Bradenton on March 5 while they travel to Tampa on the March 12 for their lone game on the road against the Yankees. The two teams will face off as part of the 2022 regular season. 

This spring training marks the first time the Pirates and New York Mets will square off in spring training since 2001 when the Pirates hosted the Mets at PNC Park prior to its opening. The game against the Mets will take place March 14 before the Pirates take on the Miami Marlins the following day.

The Minnesota Twins come to Bradenton for a St. Patrick's Day match up between the Twins and Pirates as well as the second of three between the two teams in the spring. 

March 29 marks the final game of the spring for the Pirates when they take on the Braves before heading north to start the 2022 regular season which begins March 31 when the Pirates host the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park.

The Pirates finished the 2021 Grapefruit League slate with a 13-14 record which was good for ninth out of 15 teams. Report dates for pitchers, catchers and position players will be forthcoming at a later date.
