Former NHL player Jimmy Hayes died unexpectedly at his home in Boston on Monday. He was 31 years old.
The Boston Globe, citing local law enforcement, reported that the death was not considered suspicious.
Hayes played 334 NHL games over his eight-year professional career with the Blackhawks, Bruins, Panthers, and Devils. He last played during the 2018-19 season on a contract with the Penguins, attending training camp and playing in the preseason then playing the full regular season in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Anyone from the Boston area knows just how much the Hayes family means to the hockey scene around here, and Jimmy was pretty much unanimously beloved by everyone. May as well have been a god in Dorchester. Can't really put into words how devastating this is for the community
