CRANBERRY, Pa. -- Defenseman Juuso Riikola and forward Michael Chaput both passed through waivers unclaimed on Saturday afternoon and were assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

If recalled, Riikola or Chaput can play 10 games or spend up to 30 days on the NHL roster before needing waivers again.

Because Riikola is on a one-way contract, only the first $1.125 million of his cap hit comes off of the Penguins' books while he is in the AHL. The remaining $25,000 will still count toward the Penguins' cap. Chaput is on a two-way contract and does not count toward the cap at all while in the AHL.

The assignments bring the Penguins' training camp roster down to 27 players.

The Penguins on Saturday put forward Anthony Angello on waivers. If he goes unclaimed, he can clear on Sunday at 2 p.m.
