While the Pirates’ offense ranked near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories, their best hitter is being recognized as one of the best at his position.
Bryan Reynolds is one of seven outfield finalists for a Silver Slugger award, Major League Baseball announced Monday. It is the first time Reynolds has been a finalist for the award.
His fellow nominees are Juan Soto of the Nationals, Nick Castellanos and Jesse Winker of the Reds, Bryce Harper of the Phillies, Adam Duvall of the Braves and Tyler O’Neill of the Cardinals. Three will receive awards, regardless of position.
The finalists were based on votes cast by managers and coaches.
Reynolds is coming off the best season of his career, slashing .302/.390/.522 with 24 home runs, 90 RBIs, 93 runs and 35 doubles. His .912 OPS was tied with O’Neil for the fourth-highest among qualified National League outfielders, trailing Harper (1.04), Soto (.999) and Castellanos (.939). His 146 OPS+ also ranks fourth among NL outfielders and fifth overall in the league.

The winners will be announced on MLB Network Nov. 11 at 6:00 p.m.
PIRATES EXPAND MINOR LEAGUE AWARDS
The Pirates will be announcing their minor-league award winners from Tuesday to Thursday.
On Tuesday, the Pirates will recognize the staff of the year, the Danny Murtaugh Coach of the Year and the Manny Sanguillen Teammates of the Year.
On Wednesday, it will be the Willie Stargell Slugger of the Year, Kent Tekulve Reliever of the Year, Bill Mazeroski Defender of the Year and the Omar Moreno Baserunner of the Year.
Finally, Thursday will recognize the Honus Wagner Player of the Year and Bob Friend Pitcher of the Year.
Each award was voted on by the Pirates’ baseball operations department.
