Juuso Riikola's re-assignment to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton didn't even last 24 hours.
The Penguins on Friday recalled Riikola on an emergency basis ahead of this weekend's road trip, which includes a game in Ottawa on Saturday and a game in Washington on Sunday.
Defensemen Chad Ruhwedel and Marcus Pettersson will not travel to Ottawa because they would have to be subjected to the Canadian government's 14-day quarantine requirement due to their recent COVID-19 cases. Given that Sidney Crosby, Brian Dumoulin and Mike Sullivan all tested positive for COVID-19 after Ruhwedel and Pettersson did, it's safe to say that they won't be eligible to come out of protocol yet and travel to Canada either,
The Penguins will also not bring Tristan Jarry on the Ottawa trip, and Jarry will meet the team in Washington on Sunday. Jarry's absence isn't due to injury or illness, but rather the travel schedule with back-to-back games. Casey DeSmith will presumably get the start in Ottawa, and Jarry will presumably start in Washington.
Goaltender Louis Domingue was recalled from Wilkes-Barre to serve as the second goaltender for the Ottawa trip. Domingue is 1-2-1 in five appearances with Wilkes-Barre this season, posting a 2.43 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.
