RICHMOND, Va. -- What is it about the Steelers and Lions in late November?
I had sworn I’d never touch this game...but after last Sunday’s debacle, thanks to some macabre impulse, I just couldn’t resist!
Back in 1983, I’d been so looking forward to finally seeing my favorite team on Thanksgiving, finally, since the schedule was announced that spring. Then as quickly as it began, the game was essentially over. 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. 24-3 at halftime. All the pumpkin pie and stuffing in the world couldn’t ease the pain.
Well, I thought, at least they’d get another shot at the Lions on Turkey Day eventually. That’d have to turn out better…right?
