Jake Guentzel has been named the NHL's third star of the week for the week ending Dec. 5, the league announced on Monday.

Guentzel extended his active point streak to 12 games over the week, with five goals and an assist in three games.

Guentzel scored the Penguins' only goal in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Flames last Monday, then scored a goal in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Oilers. He recorded an assist and a hat trick -- the fourth of his career -- in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Canucks.

Guentzel's 13 goals this season now ranks No. 13 in the NHL.

The NHL's first star of the week was Panthers winger Jonathan Huberdeau for his eight assists and one goal in three games. Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman was the second star for his two goals and six assists in four games.
