Penguins forward Frederick Gaudreau suffered an injury in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Devils at Prudential Center.
Gaudreau's last shift ended with 1:13 remaining in the second period, and it's not clear what may have happened to him on that shift. He dropped to one knee on the Devils' last rush up ice:
Mike Sullivan said after the game that Gaudreau was being evaluated for a lower-body injury.
Sunday's game marked Teddy Blueger's return to the lineup, making Mark Jankowski the spare center and a healthy scratch. If Gaudreau misses any time, Jankowski figures to step back in as fourth-line center.
Gaudreau has one goal and three assists in 13 games this season. He's been strong in the faceoff circle, winning 53.6 percent of all draws.
"He's been great, a really good player," Blueger said of Gaudreau on Sunday. "The thing that jumps out is how smart he is. Great awareness, great hockey sense is his biggest strength. Obviously he has really good hands, he's good on draws. So he can play anywhere up and down the lineup. That's proved very valuable to us with how many guys are out right now."
