Pirates lose coach Sherlock to Mets taken at PNC Park (Pirates)

The Mets have hired Glenn Sherlock, who has been a part of the Pirates’ coaching staff the last two years as a major league coach.

According to Jon Heyman, Sherlock, who was a part of Mets manager Buck Showalter’s staffs with the Yankees and Diamondbacks, is leaving to get a promotion as the Mets bench coach. He had previously served as the Mets third base coach and a catching instructor from 2017-2019.

Sherlock joined the Pirates staff ahead of the 2020 season to focus on defensive shifts and coaching the catcher position. His work with Jacob Stallings the last two years was instrumental in him winning a Gold Glove in 2021. 

He was one of the few veteran members of the Pirates coaching staff the last two years.There is no word yet if the Pirates will hire someone new to fill his position.
