Guentzel named to All-Star Game taken at PPG Paints Arena (Penguins)

Tristan Jarry won't be the only Penguins player in the All-Star Game this year.

The NHL's "Last Men In" vote to name one final player from each division to the All-Star Game rosters closed on Tuesday at midnight.

Jake Guentzel, the Penguins' candidate, finished second in voting in the Metropolitan Division to the Rangers' Mika Zibanejad. Zibanejad had to withdraw from the All-Star Game due to personal reasons, so Guentzel will be going in his place.

This is the second time Guentzel has been named to an All-Star roster, but the first time he'll actually be able to participate. Guentzel was named to the All-Star Game in 2020, but suffered a shoulder injury on the same day the rosters were announced, sidelining him for the remainder of the regular season.

Guentzel leads the Penguins in goals (20), points (38) and game-winning goals (5) through 32 games this season. He has points in 17 of 18 road games, with 16 goals and 26 points in those games.

Earlier in the week Guentzel's teammates made their arguments for why he should be named to the All-Star Game, with players making compelling cases such as "he's really good at the hockey," and "he play real good."

The All-Star Game weekend will take place in Las Vegas with a skills competition on Feb. 4 and a three-game, three-on-three tournament on the 5th.
