ALTOONA, Pa. -- It's been a largely quiet offseason for the Steelers as the dust settles from the 2021 season save for Wednesday when JuJu Smith-Schuster was in Dallas for an appearance at an event for 7-Eleven.
Smith-Schuster was there with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and had quite a bit to mention about the Steelers and his plans this offseason.
He mentioned he's 'most likely' headed for free agency, according to Michael Gehiken of the Dallas Morning News.
Smith-Schuster re-signed with the Steelers on a one-year deal worth $8 million heading into the 2021 season after testing the free agency market briefly. He suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery, though he would return for the Wild Card round loss to the Chiefs.
While the Steelers could use someone like Smith-Schuster to mentor young receivers, it does seem as though his days in Pittsburgh have come to an end. Smith-Schuster posted "It's been real Pitt!" on his Instagram story on Monday.
While that might not exactly scream he's leaving, he did fire some parting shots at the Steelers' facilities while in Dallas at The Star, the training complex for the Cowboys.
"The Steelers are still working on trying to get out of the wooden locker rooms,” Smith-Schuster said about Dallas' facilities. “And over here, it’s very prestige. Oh, they’ll definitely hear this. I want them (the Steelers) to hear this.”
While the Steelers have no answers for who their quarterback for 2022 will be after the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger, the Cowboys have no such issue with Prescott being their guy for many years to come.
Could that make Dallas a potential suitor for Smith-Schuster? Well, he wouldn't mind.
“He’s a great quarterback. Catching balls from him in a facility like this, I wouldn’t mind it," Smith-Schuster said.
