ALTOONA, Pa. -- Well, at least it's over.
Duquesne's catastrophic season came to a merciful close with a 79-77 loss to Rhode Island in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Dukes finished with 17 consecutive losses, a 6-24 overall record, 1-16 in the A-10.
Freshman guard Primo Spears notched his second straight 30-point game to become the first freshman in school history to do so. Spears finished with 30 against the Rams while Kevin Easley, Jr. added a career-high 20 points with Jackie Johnson III chipping in 13.
The Dukes cut the lead to one in the waning seconds. Freshman guard Tyson Acuff had the chance to win with a late heave, but it grazed the bottom of the net as the final horn sounded.
