The Steelers decision to sign Myles Jack to a two-year, $16-million deal Wednesday night signaled the end of Joe Schobert's days in Pittsburgh.

Today, the Steelers made that official, terminating Schobert's contract after just one season with the team.

The move saves the Steelers $7.85 million against their 2022 salary cap.

The Steelers acquired Schobert, 28, from the Jaguars last season at the end of training camp in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in this year's draft. He had 112 tackles and an interception along with six pass defenses in 2021.

But with the addition of Jack, another former Jaguars player, the Steelers had no need to keep Schobert around to play next to 2019 first-round draft pick Devin Bush. Jack counts $4.75 million against the Steelers' salary cap this season, meaning the team saves $3 million this season with the move.

Schobert is the second player the Steelers have released in the past two days. The team also terminated the contract of offensive tackle Zach Banner on Wednesday, saving $5 million against the salary cap.
