Man, I’m still kinda buzzing with disbelief over that Kenny Pickett pick Thursday night … certainly unexpected, and I hope the eventual results match the good feelings it generated in the moment. I’m not nearly enough of a football tactician to theorize how it might go, but I admire the Steelers’ willingness to take a chance, and not stick with the same stale (if in its own way, successful) formula of the last couple seasons. 

Speaking of taking chances, the Steelers did exactly that in 2003 when they traded up to pick Troy Polamalu, and anyone would have to admit that the gamble paid off beyond any measurable expectation. First round pick to Hall of Fame in 17 years … a resume doesn’t get much more impressive than that!
