RICHMOND, Va. -- Given the franchise's star-crossed legacy of pitching, with only six no-hitters over the course of nearly 150 years of National League play, the idea that a Pirates hurler will take the mound on any given day and blank the opposition is nearly unthinkable. Sure, nobody actually predicts a no-no … but I’ve watched it happen to the Bucs enough times that it shouldn’t seem as impossible for them to pull off as it, unfortunately, does.
Indeed, the only familiar, contemporary aspect to what Cliff Chambers accomplished back in 1951… is finding out that he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals a month later!
