CRANBERRY, Pa. -- Brian Dumoulin suffered a complete, grade 3 tear of his MCL in Game 1 of the Penguins' first-round series against the Rangers.

Dumoulin's injury happened late in regulation, when his knee hyperextended from crashing into the Pittsburgh net upon colliding with Filip Chytil on a New York goal that was disallowed for goaltender interference:

Dumoulin put on a knee brace at the end of regulation and finished the game, though he said on the Penguins' locker room cleanout day that some of his shifts felt "questionable."

"You kind of feel like you don't have support in that knee," Dumoulin said of what it felt like finishing that game. "It's almost like your shin is slipping out, you don't really have any proper power."

A month later, Dumoulin is back on the ice and seems to be moving just fine.

Dumoulin skated on his own with Penguins skills coach Ty Hennes at the Lemieux Complex on Friday morning. It's not clear when Dumoulin was first able to start skating again, but Friday was not his first session on the ice.

Dumoulin was already on the ice when I stopped by the rink, and he stayed on the ice for another 30 minutes with Hennes. Here's a look at some of the drills Hennes had Dumoulin doing:

Dumoulin, who turns 31 this summer, is entering the final year of a six-year contract that carries a cap hit of $4.1 million and has a modified no-trade clause that allows him to submit a 10-team no-trade list.
