ST. LOUIS -- The Pirates have called up another one of their outfield prospects to the majors, as Canaan Smith-Njigba has joined the team in St. Louis.

Hoy Park has also joined the big-league team.

To make room on the roster for them, outfielder Travis Swaggerty and left-handed reliever Aaron Fletcher were optioned to Class AAA Indianapolis.

Smith-Njigba, 23, came over to the Pirates last year as part of the Jameson Taillon trade. In 218 plate appearances in Class AAA this season, he has slashed .277/.387/.408 with one home run, 19 RBIs, 31 runs scored and eight stolen bases.

This is the first time Smith-Njigba has been called up to the majors. MLB Pipeline ranks him as the Pirates' No. 21 prospect. He had his contract selected and was added to the 40-man roster this past winter.

The Pirates haven't shied away from promoting rookie outfielders of late. Jack Suwinski joined the team in April, Cal Mitchell in May and Swaggerty last week. Swaggerty did not start either of the last two games in the Pirates' weekend series against the Braves.

Swaggerty went 1-for-9 with four strikeouts in his first taste of the majors.

Fletcher has pitched in eight major-league games this season and has allowed nine earned runs over 8 2/3 frames.

For Park, this will be his third stint in the majors with the Pirates this year. After going 3-for-14 in the majors this year, he slashed .250/.400/.339 with two home runs and 13 RBIs in 140 plate appearances for Indianapolis.

Additionally, the Pirates will recall right-hander Bryse Wilson to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. Rosters will expand to 27 players for that game, so no corresponding move will be needed.
