A day after the Penguins promoted three of their hockey operations members, one of their business executives is getting a promotion as well.

It was announced by the Penguins Wednesday that Kevin Acklin, 46, has been named president of business operations. Acklin has spent four seasons with the Penguins, most recently serving as the team's chief operating officer and general counsel the past two seasons after joining the organization as senior vice president in 2018.

Brian Burke will remain in his role as president of hockey operations.

“I am deeply humbled and honored that our Fenway ownership group is putting their trust in me, and I will forever be indebted to David Morehouse for hiring me and teaching me how to best lead this organization,” Acklin said. “I love the Penguins, our loyal fans, and our great City of Pittsburgh, and will work hard every day to continue to bring this city the type of championship-caliber hockey team it deserves.”

Acklin will report directly to Fenway Sports Group while managing the day-to-day operations of the organization. His duties will include strategic planning, corporate partnerships, marketing and community outreach. He will also be tasked with leading the development of the Lower Hill District and previous Civic Arena site.

Before joining the Penguins, Acklin worked as the chief legal officer for Peoples Natural Gas Company after serving as chief of staff and chief development officer for Mayor William Peduto from 2013 to 2017.
