On Thursday, the 50th anniversary of the enactment of Title IX, Pitt Athletics launched a year-long celebration of woman's athletics at the University, titled "Hail to Her", which will include a new microsite, Title IX anniversary logo, a special edition of H2P magazine, social media content, and recognition at various home athletic events.

Title IX, adopted in 1972, completely changed women's athletics and provided women across the country with many more opportunities. The legislation stated that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrmination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

"June 23, 2022 is a momentous day as it gives us the opportunity to celebrate 50 years since the passage of Title IX and the opportunities the law created for women in sports," said Pitt's director of athletics, Heather Lyke, in a statement released Thursday. "Our year-long ceebration is a display of appreciation to the giant shoulders we all stand on from the women who paved the way and, more importantly, allows us to focus on the next 50 years and the continued progress we will make for women."
