The Penguins will play their first preseason game of the 2022-23 season in less than three months.
The Penguins on Thursday announced their six-game preseason schedule, featuring the regular slate of opponents: The Blue Jackets, Sabres, and Red Wings.
The preseason schedule opens on Sept. 25 with a pair of split-squad games against the Blue Jackets. The Penguins will host the Blue Jackets for a 1 p.m. game that Sunday at PPG Paints Arena, while a different set of players travel to Columbus that same day for a 7 p.m. game on the road. With Sept. 25 being the first day of the preseason schedule, prospects and other AHL players will still be on the training camp roster, allowing the Penguins and Blue Jackets to dress the necessary two full teams on that day.
The Penguins will host the Red Wings two days later on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m., then travel to Buffalo on Oct. 1 for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Sabres. The final week of the preseason will feature a 7:30 p.m. game in Detroit on Oct. 3, then a 7 p.m. game at home against the Sabres on Oct. 7.
Television, streaming and radio information will be released at a later date.
