RICHMOND, Va. -- As a high school freshman in 1986, transplanted away from the split loyalties of my former home near the PA state line to the considerably more Cleveland-leaning demographics of the Akron suburbs, this one really stung.
We’d already lost so much as Steelers fans by then, the glory days a distant memory and all but of a handful of the players from those great teams retired. The Three Rivers jinx was about all I had left to hold over my classmates, and now even that was gone. Imagine if I’d known that this game represented just the start of a seven-game losing skid to the Browns, home AND away, that wouldn’t be snapped until just months before I would graduate?
