Happy Halloween!
I'm sure a lot of you could use a little bit of levity after such a spooky performance by the Penguins on their recent western road trip, so it feels like a good time for another edition of Survey Says.
With Monday being Halloween, I thought it would be fun for this week's locker room survey to fit the theme. I asked players over the last week three Halloween-related questions about their favorite Halloween candy, favorite costume they've ever worn, and their feelings on scary movies.
Here are their answers.
FAVORITE HALLOWEEN CANDY?
Sidney Crosby: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, I like chocolate.
P.O Joseph: I'm a big candy guy. I like sour ones, everything sour is pretty good. But chocolate too. And Starburst. My dad is a big Starburst guy, he always has Starburst around. I'll go with that one.
Jason Zucker: Reese's.
Danton Heinen: I like anything candy. I'll do Sour Patch Kids or Peach Rings. But let's go with Sour Keys.
Bryan Rust: Twix.
Jan Rutta: Peanut M&Ms.
Brock McGinn: Starburst.
Rickard Rakell: I don't have one, actually. I'm not a big Halloween guy.
Josh Archibald: I'm a Reese's Pieces guy or Reese's Cup person, one of those.
Brian Dumoulin: M&Ms.
Ryan Poehling: I have to go with Good & Plenty, my mom always has those around.
FAVORITE COSTUME YOU'VE EVER WORN?
Dumoulin: My wife and I did Beauty and the Beast, I was Lumiere the candle. That was my favorite one.
Archibald: I think the best one was when my son was just born and that Baby Shark Song came out. So my wife made some pretty good shark costumes, that was the best.
Heinen: I've done Dodgeball. I remember I was a goalie one year as a kid. I went as Santa last year, that might be my favorite.
Zucker: I was Superman a few years, I like Superman.
Joseph: One year when we were in Tampa I was the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, I really liked that one. I was Big Mama too when I was in Grade 5, I think. I remember my Ninja Turtle one too. I try to change things up every year but those were the big ones.
Poehling: I have two older brothers and in college we dressed up as the three Hanson brothers, so that's probably the best one that I've had.
Rust: Three years ago my wife and I were Shrek and Fiona and Zach Aston-Reese was Donkey. That was fun, we did the face paint, we went all out.
McGinn: I was Shaun White one year. I built a snowboard out of cardboard and taped it all up, and then just got some goggles and helmet. That was awesome.
Rakell: Me and my wife dressed up as The Simpsons one year. Yeah, that was pretty good.
Crosby: The guy from 300. It had a chest and abs and stuff, so I was shredded. I felt pretty good about that, walking around in that costume.
Rutta: I was a stabbed Julius Caesar, like I was Caesar but I had daggers in me. That was good.
DO YOU LIKE SCARY MOVIES?
Poehling: Love 'em, I do. I'm a big fan. I mean, Harry Potter is not scary but I always watch those around this time. But I like Silence of the Lambs, that's a good movie, I'd probably go with that. I actually took a scary movie film class in college for extra credit.
Zucker: Hate them. I just can't do it. Not my thing.
Rakell: Not a big fan of scary movies, not a big fan at all. I don't like to get scared.
Crosby: No, no. Maybe one a year, that's max. I stay away from scary ones. I'm trying to think of the last one I've even seen, I can't remember. That's how long it's been since I've seen a real scary movie. Maybe one of the Saw movies? That's about the peak of scariness for me.
Rutta: I used to but I don't watch them anymore. My favorite was 3:15 A.M., that was nice. The Ring is my favorite, No. 1 and 2.
Rust: I cannot handle scary movies. I'd like to say I'm tough enough to handle them, but no.
Dumoulin: I mean, I won't go itching to watch one, but I do like Halloween movies. I like festive movies, for sure.
Archibald: No, no, I stay away from those. I never have, I just stay away.
McGinn: No! Definitely won't watch them, no. I can't remember the last time I watched them.
Heinen: No. I just don't love them.
Joseph: Honestly, growing up, I hated them. My dad loved them. He was always watching some. Then down in junior when I was 16 years old, I started rooming with this player Keith Getson. Him and I, every road trip that we did, we watched a scary movie. So we watched them all, basically. There were some spooky things happening too while we're watching the movies. But I basically watched them all, and I don't think I've watched another scary movie without him. I was talking to him the other day and he was like, 'I don't think I've ever watched another scary movie since we separated, back when we were 19 or 20 years old.' But a big, big horror movie guy.
