Robert Morris went on the road and faced a tall task at No. 21 Dayton, and the Colonials put up a strong showing to make it a competitive game Saturday afternoon.
The Flyers outscored Robert Morris by nine in the first half, and the teams played an even second half as Dayton downed the Colonials, 60-51, in Dayton, Ohio.
The Colonials dropped to 2-2, with their other loss coming in the season opener at Ohio State. That game was not close -- the Buckeyes won, 91-53 -- but Robert Morris gave a much better effort against a quality Dayton team that was picked to win the Atlantic 10.
Robert Morris didn't have a good shooting day, hitting just 35 percent overall and 32 percent from 3. But the Colonials' defense made things tough for Dayton, which shot just 42 percent overall and 29 percent from 3.
Enoch Cheeks led Robert Morris with 15 points, while Josh Corbin had 12 and Kahliel Spear 11.
Robert Morris started slowly on offense, and Dayton jumped out to a 19-7 lead after 10 1/2 minutes. It was 24-9 with 7:36 left in the first half. The Colonials then actually outscored the Flyers over the final 27 1/2 minutes, 42-36.
