The Pirates announced Thursday that they signed six players to minor-league deals: Catcher Tyler Heineman, right-handers Tyler Chatwood and Nathan Webb, and lefties Angel Perdomo, Daniel Zamora and Rob Zastrynzy.
The Heineman and Chatwood signings had been previously reported by DK Pittsburgh Sports.
Heineman will presumably be in the mix to compete for the backup catcher job behind Austin Hedges. He and Jason Delay -- who was outrighted off of the roster earlier this offsseason -- got the bulk of the playing time behind the plate this past year for the Pirates.
Heineman, 31, slashed .217/.276/.268 with nine RBIs in 52 games played with the Pirates last season.
Zamora, 29, has played parts of three major-league seasons with the Mets and Mariners. He recorded a 3.86 ERA with 71 strikeouts over 63 innings for the Dodgers' Class AAA affiliate.
Zastryzny, 30, made cameos with the Mets and Angels in the majors this past season and recorded a 3.61 ERA over 47 1/3 innings for the Mets' Class AAA affiliate.
Perdomo, 28, flashed some impressive spin rates and control problems in his first trip to the majors in 2021. He posted a 1.97 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 32 innings in AAA last season.
Perdomo was featured in my Mound Visit highlighting intriguing minor-league free agents earlier this offseason.
Webb, 25, was rated as having a 70-grade fastball according to FanGraphs' preseason scouting reports, but recorded a 9.99 ERA over 33 1/3 innings for the Royals' farm system.
All of these deals come with invitations to spring training.
