ALTOONA, Pa. -- The good thing about momentum is that, once you have it, everything seems to keep rolling along smoothly.

There's no denying that Penn State has a lot of momentum right now, and the Nittany Lions kept it going Monday morning by landing its first commitment for the 2025 recruiting class, beating out numerous major programs for the No. 1 prospect from New Jersey.

Offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews, a 4-star recruit, announced his commitment to Penn State. The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder from Toms River North High School is rated the No. 5 offensive tackle in the country and No. 60 prospect overall for 2025.

Matthews picked Penn State over Ohio State, Georgia, Miami, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He visited Penn State over the weekend for its junior day.

Being the first commit for the class of 2025 will put Matthews in a position where he can be a leader of the class and possibly help steer other prospects to Penn State.

The Nittany Lions' class of 2024 currently includes two recruits: 4-star offensive lineman Cooper Cousins and 4-star linebacker Anthony Speca.
