Duquesne enjoyed a sensational week, finishing it off Saturday afternoon with a thrilling win at home.
The Dukes held on for a 56-54 victory over St. Bonaventure at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, capturing their third straight win and fourth in the past five games.
Duquesne (17-8, 7-5 Atlantic 10) led for the final 13:42 and held on down the stretch to topple the Bonnies (13-13, 7-6). The Dukes were up 51-43 with 5:02 to go and made it hold up late.
St. Bonaventure hit a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left to pull within 56-53. b Brewer missed the front end of a one-and-one with 5 seconds left, so the Bonnies had one last chance. The Dukes chose to foul with 2 seconds to go instead of giving up a 3-point try, and the strategy paid off.
Daryl Banks III made the first free throw and missed the second for St. Bonaventure, and time expired before the Bonnies could get off a shot after pulling down an offensive rebound.
Dae Dae Grant and Jimmy Clark III scored 12 points apiece to lead Duquesne. Kareem Rozier added 11 off the bench, and Joe Reece had eight.
The Dukes' defense was superb as they forced 25 turnovers.
Duquesne's fantastic week included a 93-67 win last Saturday at George Washington, the largest road victory ever in Atlantic 10 play for the Dukes. Then they returned home and beat George Mason on Wednesday, 75-52, for Keith Dambrot's 500th career victory.
The win Saturday avenged Duquesne's 65-56 loss at St. Bonaventure in January.
The Dukes wrap up their three-game homestand Wednesday against Saint Joseph's. Tipoff is 7 p.m. at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
