'Just talking:' Reynolds on his photos with Nutting, where things stand taken in Bradenton, Fla. (Pirates)

Bob Nutting and Bryan Reynolds talk at Pirate City Tuesday.

BRADENTON, Fla. -- The photos certainly picked up plenty of interest on social media. After an offseason of tension between the Pirates and their star player, Bryan Reynolds, because of their failed contract extension talks and Reynolds' trade request, both he and Bob Nutting were spotted chatting at Pirate City.

“I mean, me and Bob talked on the field," Reynolds said at his LECOM Park locker Saturday before cracking a smile. "I think everybody got a picture of it."

Yeah, there are definitely a handful of those photos out there, stemming from those pair of conversations:

And one with Travis Williams, for good measure:

"It was a good talk," Reynolds said. "He’s a good guy. We were just talking about things. I guess trying to smooth everything over.”

“It’s been really casual, friendly conversations,” Reynolds added shortly after.

Talking and being friendly can only be a good thing, right? But for something to get done and bring an end to this saga, major concessions are going to have to be made. The two sides remain a good ways apart, with the Pirates offering Reynolds a 6 year, $80 million extension while the player's camp requested eight years, $134 million.

At the start of spring training, general manager Ben Cherington said there was nothing new to report on Reynolds' contract situation, but that they were going to leave the door open. Reynolds confirmed Saturday there has been no new offer from the team.

His preference, though, is to remain a Pirate, reiterating what he said the first day of spring training.

“That would be great," Reynolds said. "Hopefully that’s something to come to fruition, but I can’t tell the future. I don’t think anybody can. Just have to wait and see, I guess.”

As far as if there is any deadline to get a deal done before the focus goes just to baseball, Reynolds responded, “I haven’t even gotten that far to think about that."
