INDIANAPOLIS -- The Steelers have quite a bit to tend to in free agency, but some housekeeping needs to be taken care of beforehand. That includes bringing back impending free agents.

The Steelers announced Monday that they've re-signed Jamir Jones to a one-year contract.

Jones, 24, was an exclusive rights free agent, meaning the Steelers only needed to offer him a league-minimum contract to keep him from negotiating a contract with another team. While the worth of Jones' contract is not yet known, it'll be worth at least $940,000.

Jones played in all 17 games with the Steelers during the 2022 season, recording 10 total tackles and one pass defended. The outside linebacker primarily played special teams, with only 86 of his 337 total snaps coming on defense.

Originally signing as an undrafted free agent with Houston in 2020, the Notre Dame product split time between the Steelers, Jaguars and Rams during the 2021 season. He stuck with Pittsburgh at the end of the season, and now is due to spend time on the South Side for the third straight year.

In signing Jones, the Steelers have now re-signed both of their exclusive rights free agents to one-year contracts. Last week, the Steelers re-signed long snapper Christian Kuntz to a one-year contract worth $940,000.

Jones' return reinforces depth to special teams and the outside linebacker position, though the Steelers could and most likely will search for another player to rotate behind T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith in 2023. The Steelers haven't been able to find a player that has been able to maintain a comfortable level of production behind the duo. Melvin Ingram and Malik Reed didn't work out for two different reasons. If and when the Titans cut Bud Dupree loose for salary cap relief, a reunion could be an option.
